E-Z Burr Tool Company is proud to announce its newest innovation… the Component Micro Series (CMS)!

This new high performance Component Micro Series is great for high volume runs and consists of a 3-component design that is comprised of a tool holder, a solid arbor and a high speed steel (HSS) blade. This independent design allows for easy component replacement in which the solid arbor can be replaced without changing the blade, or the blade be replaced without changing the solid arbor. The blades and arbors can be changed while the tool is still in the machine.

E-Z Burr also offers the added benefit of coating the CMS blades, which is not available with the standard Micro Series (featuring a cartridge design). Coating the blades allows the tool to hold up better with the tougher or even gummier materials, which are sometimes common in Aerospace and Medical Applications.

Another strong of the CMS is its ability to deburr hard to reach or nearly impossible-to-access holes. With tiny holes, bottleneck issues can arise. This new tool prevents that from happening and serves as a great solution.

E-Z Burr’s standard cartridge style Micro Series tools are still recommended to use on several applications . The main difference with this new design is for very high usage applications in which changing the blades or arbors only, will provide a cost savings in the long run over replacing the entire cartridge.

Sizes range from .057 (1.45mm) through .092 (2.34mm)

With E-Z Burr’s first deburring tool manufactured in 1960, this year marks 50 years of hole deburring and chamfering innovation. “It’s been quite a ride and we have witnessed numerous industry and economic changes, but 2010 marks a banner year for us and we are still going strong,” says Bill Robinson, president of E-Z Burr Tool Company.

Over the past two years, E-Z Burr Tool Company has been putting a lot of effort, money and focus into our website. Our goal was to try to make ezburr.com an online location where end-users and distributors can easily access whatever you need to know about our products within seconds. As you know, we have achieved that with our 3D animations, videos and our latest innovation, the E-Z Tool Calculator.

With our E-Z Tool Calculator, we have added yet another feature to it to make the ordering process easier for end-users. We have added a button that lists the contact information of our participating local distributors by state.

Now, what do we mean by “participating?” We would love to offer this opportunity to all distributors looking to have exposure on our website, however, we do have some special criteria. Therefore, if you are interested in learning more about how to get your name and contact info in this section of our site, please email info@ezburr.com or call Dan Ewing at 1-800-783.2877.

E-Z Burr Tool Company proudly saves another client time and money!

“This tool is working successfully! This has been an ongoing problem for us for years, I believe you have cracked the nut on this one!” –Aerospace Manufacturer

The Problem:

An aerospace manufacturer was having difficulty generating a consistent chamfer on a high pressure Inconel 718 turbine stator. The hole diameter was .0935 and it was a blind hole. The stator has a double flange configuration with one through hole in line with a second blind hole. The goal was to deburr the top and bottom of the first hole as well as the top of the second hole while maintaining a consistent chamfer size of .005-.015. The customer had been using a hand made deburring tool driven by a pencil grinder, which was very difficult. This operation took way too much time and proved to be very inconsistent and did not garner the results they were looking for.

The Solution:

E-Z Burr built a custom micro tool to deburr the 3 surfaces and hold a consistent .005 – .015 chamfer size. We had to ensure that the arbor pilot length didn’t damage the blind hole while still removing the burrs and generating a consistent chamfer in the desired size range. We accomplished this through design modifications to the arbor and blade.

The Results:

• Time Savings: 10-40 parts a month, at approximately 30 minutes per part = 5-20 hours per month saved

• Cost Savings: The cost savings is significant since you save money when you save time. However we respect that this customer

would prefer that we not publish that figure.

• Increased Quality: “The quality with this tool is the most important part. When you do it by hand you get extreme differences

on both sides. With EZ Burr every single part is exactly the same. It looks much better and the surface finish is better.”

E-Z Burr Tool Company Announces New “Small Hole” Carbide Series

For Immediate Release — January 25, 2009 — E-Z Burr Tool Company is pleased to announce the launch of their new “Small Hole” Carbide deburring tool. This new tool design extends E-Z Burr’s high performance Carbide Series to now deburr hole diameters as small as .125 inches.

E-Z Burr’s new “Small Hole” Carbide tool was designed specifically for hard-to-machine materials, and exotic applications. “We wanted to develop a technologically advanced carbide tool for hole deburring in the diameter range of 1/8 through 1/4 inch. The largest percentage of our sales is in this diameter range and until now, we only had High Speed Steel (HSS) available,” says Robinson. “Now we can offer manufacturers a carbide tool for tough materials and smaller holes that deburrs up to 3x faster and lasts up to 5x longer than HSS in this size range.”

“Over the past year, we tested this tool extensively and achieved successful results,” explains Bill Robinson, President of E-Z Burr Tool Company. “With a Carbide deburring tool this small in size combined with a high caliber of quality and performance rate, we know it will significantly help our customers save time and money over other deburring methods.”

E-Z Burr has been innovating and manufacturing deburring tools for almost 50 years in which their patented deburring tool design deburrs both the front and backside of a hole in a single pass, and allows for easy blade or insert change and cutting pressure adjustment while the tool is still in the machine. The new “Small Hole” Carbide Tool features a carbide insert attached to an HSS flex arm with a “dovetail” fit. This unique dovetail joint design requires no other mechanical fasteners. “The flex arm is a one-piece construction that allows it to be changed as easily as our HSS blades,” explains Robinson. “And, we are featuring a variety of coatings and geometries to handle a range of cutting conditions from easy to difficult.

“We are always thinking of our customers efficiency when developing our tools. That is why we combined the faster speeds and feeds of Carbide, our patented insert replacement system, along with the ability to deburr smaller hole diameters,” enthuses Robinson.

About E-Z Burr Tool Company

E-Z Burr designs and manufactures a complete line of patented hole deburring tools, specialty chamfering tools and drilling tools, including high-speed steel, carbide, micro, and custom tools. E-Z Burr tools deburr both the front and backside of a hole in a single pass, and allows you to easily change the blade or insert and adjust the cutting pressure quickly while the tool is still in the machine. E-Z Burr Tool Company is headquartered in Plymouth, Michigan.

E-Z Burr is Right on Track with IMTS

This year’s IMTS proved to be very worthy of all the hype surrounding it! It was not only great to be there to see all of the latest and greatest manufacturing products but also to confirm that E-Z Burr is right on track with where the manufacturing industry is going. IMTS really reinforced that our actions in developing deburring tools specifically for industries such as aerospace and medical are the way to go these days.

E-Z Burr has been developing products designed for specific industries and hard-to-machine materials for quite some time. Being located in the MotorCity and watching first-hand the decline of manufacturing in automotive, we knew years ago that we needed to begin focusing on other industries, applications and materials. In fact, in 2009 we will be rolling out a new line of small diameter carbide tools to cover .125 through .250-inch diameter range. This new “Dovetail” design has been successfully implemented at accounts such as G E and Williams International.

With our new carbide tool, our BurrFree Drill, our micro-series and other industry specific specialty tools, E-Z Burr is pleased to be right in line with the focus of IMTS.

An E-Z Burr Custom Carbide Tool Helps Another Client Save Time and Money!

The Problem: To reach the backside of a large 80lb component. The Nodular Iron component is an 11.6 inch Hub with 22 holes, 10 @ .425 diameter and 12 @1.093 diameter. The customer was removing the 80lb hub and placing it on the workbench to manually deburr the rear of the holes by using a countersinking tool in an air drill. The weight of the hub required heavy lifting and positioning while performing this secondary operation by hand. The extra handling required further man-hours and was a challenge in maneuvering. In addition, the countersink tool was expensive, and the life of the tool was very limited. The tool would wear quickly and required re-sharpening or replacing often.

The Solution: The E-Z Burr Carbide Series Tool offered to do the rear of the holes while the hub was still in the machine. The tool was tested at 550 RPM @ 8.8 IPM (1.087 hole), to accommodate their specifications. For the smaller holes on the hub, a standard length tool at 1750 RPM @ 11 IPM (.425 hole) is used to deburr both the top and bottom in one pass.

The Results: This solution saved our customer 15 to 20 minutes per part. While the countersinking tool would last a day or two, the E-Z Burr carbide insert proved to run a month before the need of replacement thus saving the client thousands of dollars.

We’re manufacturers. We know that if a tool performs better and more efficiently then another tool, it will save you money. Welcome to E-Z Burr Tool Company. This simple little equation is our promise to everyone who uses our tools… Performance + Efficiency = Money Saved.

“We cut our machining time in half, the tool paid for itself after just 44 parts.”

Let’s take a look at an oil industry application down in Texas:
The application required the manufacturer of 2″ diameter “Slip-On-Guns” (4140 tubes) to drill and deburr multiple 1/2″ holes into each end of the part. They previously used a carbide twist drill and indexable boring bar which took them 10 minutes. The cost per hole was $2.60 each.

By utilizing E-Z Burr’s BurrFree Drill (BDS 13050) a patented combination tool that drills the hole and deburrs both the front and backside in one pass, the same application took 5 minutes and the cost per hole was $1.62 each.

The Bottom Line:
The Burr-Free Drill cut the time to run this application in half and saved the company $11,500 a year.

E-Z Burr’s Website Becomes a Star!
E-Z Burr has been working hard on creating an innovative website that captures and showcases the functionality of each of our 4 main deburring tools. This website not only offers a comprehensive view of our tools, but it also caught the attention of both Modern Machine Shop and Production Machining magazines.

We would like to shine our spotlight on Strive Creative. They are the masters behind our website and they did a fantastic job of creating 3D animations and transparencies of each of our deburring tools. By clicking a specific tool function like the locking system or blade or insert replacement, you can view the inside of the tool and see exactly how that function works. Please check our our newly updated home page to see all four of our deburring tool lines in action!”
